They were childhood sweethearts, but spiteful woman told wicked lies to get her 'revenge'

A spiteful woman repeatedly got her ex partner arrested for offences he had not committed and caused him to spend 72 hours in custody by creating a fake Facebook profile in his name. In “wicked” and vengeful offences, Melissa Dinsdale repeatedly lied to police about the man and even got him registered as a domestic abuser on the Clare’s Law register.

A court heard they had known each other since they were children and were “childhood sweethearts”. They lost contact but then began a relationship in 2016 and had two children together.

Dinsdale, 29, got a non-molestation order against the man, which he cooperated with and didn’t oppose because he believed he would not have any further contact with her. After they separated, the man began a new relationship and his new partner fell pregnant, which was announced on social media.

It was from that point on Dinsdale began making false allegations about him breaching the order. Rachel Butt, prosecuting, said: “He believed it was a direct result of the news being announced.”

Her offending came to light when she was arrested in December 2023 on suspicion of harassing the victim. Police suspicions were aroused because she had persistently refused to hand over her phone to provide evidence, instead just giving officers screenshots.

The police found she had created a Facebook profile in the name of her former partner and sent herself messages purporting to come from him, then reported them to the police as breaches of the non-molestation order.

In August 2023, she told police she was being stalked by him and that he had contacted her on Facebook messenger. She falsely claimed he had messaged her telling her not to be a grass.

The man was arrested on August 23 and placed into police custody for 15 hours until the following day. There was activity on the fake Facebook account while he was in custody.
